Seems that Google is now contacting webmasters to let them know about violations to the guidelines...

Someone posted a case where he got banned for using doorways with JS redirects.

I like how some people on threadwatch want to classify google sending a targetted letter to a domain as spam.

I am sure they can provide an opt out option for those who want to be dropped from Google with no notice.

Interesting threads. Opens up an issue though that could case problems for Google.

Who determines what is 'legitimate' domain? Legitimate content? Legitimate site? If my buddy Fred gets an email and I don't, who made that call?

Seems the who gets notice and who doesn't would be way too subjective and potentially even provide an avenue for legal action.

The whole idea of an automated search engine is to provide impartial results and essentially take subjective influence out of the process. Personally, I think my sites provide a useful service. But I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who don't, and some of them probably work for Google.
