This is one thing I always recommend. Contacting a hosting companies support department at different times of the day to see how quick support is both peak and off peak hours.

I completely agree with you. This will give you true analysis of the support quality and response times.

Talk to the people before you sign up with them. Open a sales ticket and get a feel for who they are.

cool. ok.... how much would it be roughly for those specs I mentioned earlier. here is what I am after again:

    2GB+ HDD
    40GB+ Bandwidth
MS SQL Server (full version if 2005 edition)
    ASP.NET 1.1+ (2.0 ideal or higher)
Dedicated IP (how much does this cost?)
    Email accounts, POP3/SMTP emails
possibility of transferring 2 domains to point to this server?
    20+ subdomains
    Webservices

What is the support quality and timeframe?
    Configurable IIS?
    Windows Server 2003
    AJAX

You can shortlist some hosts and search for their reviews over here and on Google. Also, sign up with a host that provides money back guarantee so that you can get time to test the support and the speed of the servers without losing your money.

    Good luck!

Most of the Windows Hosts will support your requirement. You can go through the Shared Hosting Offers Section where you'll be able to find some good deals.

    Good luck,
