They aren't ran by an advertising company (or maybe they are?). I spent several years promoting these sites. It came to a point where I didn't need to advertise and had enough people bookmarked. Middle of last year I was pushing a lot of our "garbage" traffic through to the site, that our advertisers didn't want, and in return received a lot of return visitors.

edit: obtained this from an advertiser i was promoting alone for about a week at the end of may (banner on top of page).
i think ad id is the ad they shown on their rotator for those days. also keep in mind their raw traffic is based on several different things, subtracting IP ranges they don't want to track my CPA's for, etc.

Alexa can be a helpful tool to confirm a site's traffic, but I don't think anyone would use it as any sort of absolute indicator when it comes to assessing how much a domain is worth. The site's content plus revenue is infinitely more important.

Alexa data means little IMO on its own.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for. If I ever wanted to sell my sites, which I probably will, I'll know just to reference them, and not depend on them

I'm sorry, 10k wouldn't even give you servers for one month

There's about 15-25 machines behing the load balancer here holding it up, and sometimes that doesn't even handle it. Also keep in mind you'd need dedicated gigabit ports to a dedicated switch. I don't know what kind of resources are available to you, but I'm sure when I transfer it over some day I would want proof that they could actually handle the domain. It would be sad to see it die.

Would you want to see a domain you sold to someone disapear in thin air because they try to host it on a $99/month rackshack machine? No.
