    Default Metal Gear Next?

I'm sure everyone has seen the countdown for the Next Metal Gear game but here's something we can all discuss...

    Here's a news article from a n4g.com which took it from onelastcontinue.com:

As we all know, Kojima Productions is counting down to a reveal of a new title; the countdown timer ends in roughly nine hours, but rumor has it another will soon take its place. Has Japan’s 7-11 spoiled the announcement for everyone? Count this under rumor for the time being, but one clever poster on NeoGAF has uncovered something quite interesting.

On 7Andy, the Japanese retail arm of 7-Eleven, a listing has been put up for next week’s issue of Famitsu PSP + PS3, set to hit store shelves on May 30th. Listed in the table of contents is what translates, literally, to “New Metal Gear”. Could Kojima’s next project be a Playstation game? He’s already developed multiple PSP games, and the engine that powers Metal Gear Solid 4 was certainly not cheap to produce; it would make sense for Kojima’s next game to appear on either system. With the countdown timer ticking away and no hints appearing as of yet, it seems the best thing gamers can do is to wait and see how this all turns out; after all, E3 starts in less than two weeks, and this supposed issue of Famitsu lands in Japan two days before the show.

IMO, a new Metal Gear game on PS3 sounds more reasonable as Konami stated that they made more money in the PS3 than in other consoles...

I don't get all the excitement. Yes, I've played and enjoyed each [home console] game in the series but not once was I so super excited. Kinda like how fans would go apeshit over Kojima's claim each sequel that someone else will take over. I dunno how anyone could seriously believe him.

And although I had a great time with MGS4, it quickly felt outdated. I've been going through the series since MGS1 and other than graphically, the leap from game to game hasn't been all that great. Sure, MGS1 was a big deal coming from MG1 and MG2. However, MGS2 was essentially MGS1 with a newer graphics engine, the ability to drag and hide bodies, and more useful first person view mode. MGS3 felt like a more complete game but all it really added was a few extra grapple moves. MGS4 wasn't that big a gameplay leap from MGS3, either. Other than being able to buy and upgrade weapons and an FPS-lite view mode, there wasn't that much of an innovation.

I'm not denying all four games were fun (once you get passed the fact that Kojima is in love with his terrible narratives) but my excitement has certainly diminished. I look forward to another MGS but not with the same ammount of thrill I do for Uncharted 2. Assasins Creed 2 or another Call of Duty.

I don't mean this as a thread crap since I am a fan of the series but I hope either Kojima has a gamplay epiphany or some new blood takes over this franchise.

It's not a matter of if MGS5 will be announced but a matter of when. Having that said, I'm really hoping for the next MGS to start a completely new story with new characters (slim chances I know)

I'd like a new entry without Snake and with a totally different approach to gameplay. It's too bad they botched Raiden in his first outing because he'd be fun to play in his MGS4 incarnation. Unfortunately, I don't see Kojima making the major leap required to not make playing him feel restrictive. I fear a Twin Snakes scenario where the lead character has an amazing moveset in the cinematics but just a standard punch-punch-kick attack style when under player control.

They should really look at what Naughty Dog is doing with Uncharted 2 and what Ubisoft is doing with Assassin's Creed 2. Combine the two and add a totally new character reminicent of Raiden in MGS4 (in terms of his moveset) and you'd have the gameplay for a kickass MGS5.

But keep Kojima far away from the actual writing. He can make up the characters and scenario but hire a real writer and a real editor to work on the story aspect of the game. There's no excuse to halt the game for a 10 - 20 minute cutscene and a lengthy codec conversation. I like the Splinter Cell approach to radio transmissions. You get them as you play. MGS4 teased with this in parts but mostly stuck to the "stop the game so you can listen to me drone on" approach. It didn't help that the dialogue was dreadful.

So the new game is to be called Metal Sear Solid RISING. Presumably Raiden is to be the star and it's to take place between MGS2 and MGS4. However, certain fans have noted the eye color is all wrong to be Raiden and actually matches Sunny's eye colour. So the fan theory is that it actually stars Sunny. Of course, given it's a prequel, the lead character is as obvious as Big Boss was for MGS3. The lead character is Olga. The diagonal strap across the forehead is undoubtedly covering the bullet hole from the headshot she received from Solidus Snake in MGS2. So they probably pulled a Gray Fox on her and in the end of the game she most likely bites it to save Raiden. Unless they're pulling a fake marketing maneuver like MGS2 (which featured Snake in most of the trailers to hide the fact that Raiden was to be the star of that game), I'm pretty certain about my theory.

Apparently Hideo Kojima claims he wont be involved this time around. Then again, he said he wasn't to be involved in MGS2, 3, or 4. In each of those case the team "begged him to come back". I bet he never left. Personally, I think Hideo Kojima is Japanese for "bullshit".

What you suggest sounds like an MGS2 scenario (the first part of the game was with Snake and the latter with Raiden). Yeah, I can see that happening.
