April 2009 NPS numbers

With the exception of the PS2 and DS, sales really went to shit last month. Percentage comparison are to April of last year.

Wii - 340,000 (down 53.4%)
Xbox 360 - 175,000 (down 7%)
PS3 - 127,000 (down 32.2%)
NDS - 1,040,000 (up 150.7%)
PSP - 116,000 (down 40%)
PS2 - 172,000 (up 38.3%)

To get some perspective on game sales, the top ten sold 5.58 million last April. These top ten only moved 2.81 million. Granted, last year had GTA IV and Mario Kart Wii, while this year had Godfather 2, but still. I also find it kind of interesting that Guitar Hero Aerosmith cracked the top ten solely, I’m guessing, on the strength of the GameStop and Best Buy sales.

Did it really do that well, though? It barely beat out RE: 5 which has been out for a while, plus there really weren't any other 360 games that came out. I think it sold as many as it did because of the lack of other options.

I understand the PS2 increase due to the price drop to $99, but why the DS increase? They must have lumped in DSi sales with the regular DS.

That's what I was thinking, and honestly, I expected to see a few more DS games in the list as well (due to the DSi).

they did lump in the DSi sales. I think there was like 845,000 DSi sales and about 200,000 DS sales. Looks like I was pretty close.

This marks the first month in recent memory that the Wii wasn’t number one, as the Nintendo DSi outsold all with a staggering 827,000 units – outpacing the Wii at 340,000 and the DS Lite at 215,000.

Yep, i bought the bundle because i wanted another guitar for 10$ for Rock Band. I doubt i will ever play GH:A more than twice.

Nope.
